I successfully went through the application process but did not get a project. What can I improve to increase my chances next time?

Edited

Because there are always more applicants than projects available, it is not uncommon to go through the interview process and not get matched with a project. It is not an indication of your performance and you are welcome to re-apply for the next batch.

Here are some things you can do to improve and maintain your skills in the meantime:

  • Re-visit your essays before you apply again to include your latest experiences.

  • Keep your social profiles up to date, including LinkedIn and GitHub. The admissions team does look at those and it can help us learn more about you and your interests.

  • Continue working on the code sample you submitted previously or start a better one with your improved skills.

  • Look for ways to constantly improve your communication and teamwork skills.

  • Consider building out your GitHub profile to reflect your diversity of knowledge and experience. We look to GitHub to verify skills, and if we don’t see evidence of a particular coding language, we won’t be able to consider you for a project in that language.

Keep in mind that the admissions team has a history of your previous applications and can see the growth in your essays, code samples, and interview responses.
